Laws Concerning Witnesses

19:14 You must not encroach on your neighbor’s property, ¹  which will have been defined ²  in the inheritance you will obtain in the land the Lord your God is giving you. ³ 

Ulangan 22:2

22:2 If the owner ⁴  does not live ⁵  near you or you do not know who the owner is, ⁶  then you must corral the animal ⁷  at your house and let it stay with you until the owner looks for it; then you must return it to him.

[19:14]  ² tn Heb “which they set off from the beginning.”

[19:14]  ³ tn The Hebrew text includes “to possess it.” This phrase has been left untranslated to avoid redundancy.

[22:2]  ⁴ tn Heb “your brother” (also later in this verse).

[22:2]  ⁵ tn Heb “is not.” The idea of “residing” is implied.

[22:2]  ⁶ tn Heb “and you do not know him.”

[22:2]  ⁷ tn Heb “it”; the referent (the ox or sheep mentioned in v. 1) has been specified in the translation for clarity.
